On Sunday 11 February 2018, GWN Multicultural hosted a Chinese New Year lunch at Pearl Liang in Paddington to celebrate the coming Year of the Dog with our network.
During the lunch some of our Chinese members shared how their families celebrate Chinese New Year. They also shared some of the traditions, including how many (usually young people) receive a red packet containing money. Guests at our Chinese New Year lunch did get special red packets – no cash but yummy golden chocolate coins instead! Each packet contained a card for the guest to write or draw a greeting for the person next to them. After placing the greeting in the red packet, they gave it to the person on their right. A fun learning experience for all.
For GWNM it was wonderful to have another multicultural lunch that brought together members from all backgrounds for an informal but professional way of sharing a special occasion.
Thank you to those who attended for making it such a special afternoon. If you would like to host an informal event, or support one of our events, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our guests enjoyed the food and the company, and were keen to attend more events, and get involved with GWN multicultural. People made new friends, and we all learnt about the culture of an incredible country.
This is the Year of the Dog, and if you are born in this year, it is meant to be your “unlucky year”. You can read more about it here.
